Is it acceptable for a Notary to sign and date an online document on a different date than the signer? For instance, if the Notary witnesses the signer signing a document with a jurat online on the 9th, but is unable to date and notarize the document until the following day, the 10th. Is this permissible, or is the Notary obligated to sign and date the document on the same day as the signer?
It is not permissible for a Notary to sign and date an online document on a different date than the signer. The Notary is required to complete all steps of the notarization process, including the notarial certificate, at the same time and on the same day when the document signer is in the presence of the Notary, regardless of whether the interaction is physical or online.
